Teachers, parents protest Makassed school closure

Teachers and parents Thursday protested the closure of one of Beirut’s oldest schools.

The protesters gathered outside Khadija El Kobra College in Aisha Bakkar after teachers received notification from the administration that it was going to close due to financial difficulties. The school belongs to the Al-Makassed Philanthropic Islamic Association of Beirut and was established in 1935.

The school’s teachers criticized the decision, saying that they would be left jobless, while the parents expressed surprise over claims of financial difficulties. Some parents present on the scene said that they had paid the registration fees for the new academic year and that they have regularly paid the tuition on time…
